Altered Artist Purpose continued Altered Artist is devoted to Self-Taught Art, Outsider Art or Art Brut (Raw Art), which is most often defined as forms of creative expression (usually visual art) that exist outside accepted cultural norms, or the realm of "fine art" by those who are considered "on the outside" of the established art scene. Many of us are creators who are not only untrained, self-taught artists from a variety of backgrounds but also in some way altered by life or life’s evolution, and then later because of the innovative and powerful expressions of our art itself. Many of us have little knowledge of an art gallery, any other forms of art other than our own, or the workings of the established art world. Altered Artist is a community committed to creative and collective processes, to empowering, honoring and nurturing creative processes, and supporting creative growth, both individually and collectively. The Altered Artist embraces the self-healing and therapeutic value of art, a vision of optimism and possibility for our lives and the lives we touch and encourages a Do-It-Yourself ethos, expressing a willingness to learn and grow beyond our self-imposed fences and outmoded, irrelevant societal pressures.
